Academician Barry Smith – Professor of philosophy, with a particular interest in the study of fragrances and enthusiastic lover of good wine. In 2004, he organized the first Symposium “Wine and philosophy”, subsequently published a book on the same topic – “Questions of taste” (2007).

Later, at the Institute of philosophy of the University of London he founded the Center for the Study of the Senses (CenSes) is an interdisciplinary forum for philosophical and neuroscientific inquiries into the nature of sensory systems and the work of the senses.

I took Barry’s interview on topics relevant to my new book, and at the same time asked him a few questions about the subjectivity of perception of taste and aromas of wines.

To begin, I asked the philosophical background: what philosophy can give to neuroscience? Or Professor already don’t consider himself a pure philosopher in the classic sense?
