About the benefits of champagne

British scientists finally came in handy.
Their recent study found that moderate consumption of champagne (or other sparkling wine) decreases the negative age-related changes in memory.

According to the researchers from Reading University, specific polyphenol compounds in red grapes can improve spatial memory and help retention. These phenols slow the loss of protein (such a loss is usually associated with aging) that are responsible for information storage. The presence of these phenols in red wine – not news, but scientists were not sure about sparkling wines (we were out of ignorance).

The researchers chose a group of happy rats, whose diet made food, soaked in champagne, while the control group received a similar, but ordinary food.

Then the rats were let into the maze to search for food. In five minutes they were again placed in the same maze to figure out which group better remembered the location of food. Luxury rat sitting on the champagne, showed 70% memorization, 50% in the control group. After 6 weeks of lunch with champagne from a group of lucky people was observed 200% boost memory-enhancing proteins.

So, great news: champagne made from red grapes (what is labeled as Blanc de Noir blanc de noirs) contains many phenols. But the champagne made from white grapes (Blanc de Blanc blanc de blancs) this is no different. So, read the labels on the champagne.

It is worth noting that any sparkling wine made from red grapes, rich in phenols, whether sparkling Shiraz or Oregon Pinot Noir. But I would stick to champagne – it’s diet, so Mature.

And more good news: according to a study conducted in December 2009, champagne also has beneficial effects on the heart and reduces the risk of heart attack.

So go ahead – fill first aid kit with bottles of blanc de noir !
