L’etoile

L’etoile (L’etoile) – an appellation in the Jura region in Eastern France. Geographically, it covers the village of Planoise (Plainoiseau), Cantini (Quintigny), Saint-Didier (Saint-Didier), and in fact, L’etoile.

The wine L’etoile is produced in very small quantities from vineyards just 75 hectares in the vicinity of the village. So to meet this wine outside of France is almost impossible.

L’etoile is French for “star” and it is believed that we are talking about star-shaped fossils, which are full of local limestone soil.

Coincidentally, five hills surrounding the village, is also reminiscent of the tip of the star that gives rise to an alternative version the name of the wine and the village.

From the point of view of winemaking, both versions are interesting. The first involves refreshing “minerality” white wines produced from local grapes. The second hilly topography and protected mesoclimate. Together these two circumstances, plus the popularity of Chardonnay, clearly evoke associations with the Chablis that 177 km to the North-West.

Savagnin second white variety permitted by the rules of the appellation L’etoile. It’s quintessential wine style of the Jura, the so – called yellow wine, “Wang zhon”. And in combination with Chardonnay get another specialty: the sweet “straw” wine, “van de Pai”. The second fault in a different measure involved and the key variety in the region of the pulsar, which adds color and complexity.
