Table wine

Table wine is wine that is drunk at the table during a meal, i.e. it is intended to accompany the meal and gastronomic values it is not.

This is the official (the lowest) category most national classification systems of wine quality and place of origin. The grapes for table wine can be grown in one country, and the wine is made in another. On the labels of such wines will have the word “table” in the appropriate language:

• France Vin de table
• Italy Vino da tavola
• Spain Vino de mesa
• Germany Tafelwein
• USA Table wine
• Greece Επιτραπεζιου οίνου
• Montenegro Stolno vino
• Bulgaria Refectory wine (not a table, so the meal)

The inscription: “Made in France. Table wine”. Where grapes are unknown.

If the label table wine country, then the country of origin of the raw materials and the production of wine are the same:

Inscription: “French table Wine”. So, made in France and the grapes – also from France.

With the emergence of a common European wine classification in 2010, there was a category of “wine without geographic indication”identical to the category “table wine” to drink, but with some differences in the design of the labels.

The differences of the pan-European category of the national “table wines”:

• There is no word “table” on the label, only the name of the country-manufacturer.
• It is impossible to determine the country of origin of raw materials.
• It is permissible to specify the grape variety and harvest year (which is prohibited for table wines of France).

Russian table wine

All of the above has a common logic, understandable and valid in most wine-producing countries. The Russian lawmakers ‘ logic if there is, it… own.

According to GOST 32030-2013 “Wine table and wine table”:

• 3.2 wine: Wine product made by full or partial alcoholic fermentation of whole or crushed berries fresh grapes or grape must.
• 3.3 table wine: a Wine with volume fraction of ethyl alcohol from 8.5 % to 15% and the total volume
  of ethyl alcohol not more than 15 %, produced by full or partial alcoholic
  fermentation of whole or crushed berries fresh grapes or grape must, with or without
  add the concentrated grape mash and (or) concentrated grape musts
  rectified.

What distinguishes table wines?

Table wines and a new pan-European category “wine without geographic indication” features a simple bouquet, low cost and minimal quality control: the only thing watching is that this wine is made only from grapes and it was safe for health. No requirements on the taste characteristics, varietal composition and constancy of parameters (strength, acidity, sweetness, etc.) to such wines are not required.

This does not mean that table wine is delicious and even worthwhile buying a whole box. This means that you will never know by the label what to expect from the contents of the bottle. This table differs from the category of wines controlled by place of origin and produced according to the rules of the so-called appellations.
