Chambolle-Musigny

Chambolle-Musigny (Chambolle-Musigny) is a small commune in the Cote de Nuits (subregion of Burgundy, part of the côte d’or) with a population of less than 400 people, produces dry wines, enjoying international recognition. These are red wines from Pinot Noir, with a vanishingly small amount of white Chardonnay wine (exclusively from the prestigious Grand Cru vineyard of Musigny; neither premier cru nor village in the category white wines do not happen here).

The word Chambolle – spoken transformation from “champ bouillant”, which means “vibrant box”, due to streams of water, rushing from the local hills during the rains.

Chambolle-Musigny first was called simply the Chambolle, while in 1882 it has not added the name of the best local vineyard, is the widespread practice of the time: only in one of the côte d’or did 12 villages. The Musigny vineyard has been classified in 1936, simultaneously with the creation of a communal appellation Chambolle-Musigny.

Along with the wines of Gevrey-Chambertin and Vosne-romanée, this wine is among the best in the world incarnations of Pinot Noir. And its perfumed character is often compared with the wines of Volnay.

The climate here, as in the côte d’or as a whole, continental style, with a high variation of seasonal and daily temperatures that will ensure a balance of acids and sugars in the finished wine due to the quality of the crop.

The village Chambolle-Musigny located on the upper boundary of the medium elevation of the slope of the côte d’or (below 305 m). And, actually, the vineyards are at its Eastern edge, extending to the neighbouring Vougeot (Vougeot). The upper and lower sections are classified as a General communal appellation, and the best areas is well-drained soil in the center.

In addition to the two Grand CRU (grand Cru Musigny and Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru), the municipality is allocated 24 of the climate control category of the CRUs, the latest revision of which was in 1988. These wines carry the label indication Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru.
