Wine that comes from vineyards of several communes (villages) classified as a General communal appellation “côte de Nuits villages”: the villages is translated as “village”.

The most famous and dear representatives of the côte de Nuits is a wine from the vineyards Grand CRU of specific communes (= villages) of Vosne-romanée and Chambolle-Musigny. Among them one of the most sought after collectible wines – Romanée Conti (Romanee-Conti Grand Cru).

The region is considered the spiritual home of Pinot Noir. 95% of the local wines made exclusively from this variety.

The remaining 5% is white wine varietal of the other stars of Burgundy – Chardonnay. He côte de Nuits is not known for white wines – the Mecca of white Burgundy is the côte de Beaune – but the few samples that there is produced still excellent. Particular note coming under the appellation Vougeot, premiers CRUs (Vougeot Premier Cru). And quite a few bottles of white out from the vineyards of Musigny Grand CRU (Grand Cru Musigny).

While the neighboring côte de Beaune more and more productive, the côte de Nuits is not in a hurry to catch up with it in terms of focusing on quality. Right here are some of the most successful in the world of vineyards for red wines.

The main city of Nuits-Saint-Georges, was formerly known as simple Nuits, yet at the end of the 19th century did not add on a name of its best vineyard, Les St Georges. And though it is located on the southern edge of the côte de Nuits, to the most Northern vineyards in Marsannay (Marsannay) it is only 16 km away. So small spool. Its total length is 24 km away and swipe the widest part just 3.2 km away.
