Crémant de Bordeaux (Cremant de Bordeaux) is a regional appellation for white and rosé sparkling wines of the Bordeaux wine region.
Volumes of production of this wine is not significant and continues to decline in response to the obvious demand for the wines of the region: red and white, dry and sweet.
Sparkling wine produced in Bordeaux for more than 100 years, but the official separate category, they were only in April 1990. But until today, the style of these wines has not developed so clearly as in other French crémant, such as the Loire and Alsace. Maybe it’s the lost quantities of Bordeaux sparkling against the sea of dry Reds, which is a famous region of Bordeaux.
The appellation Crémant de Bordeaux scattered across more than 500 communities, making it one of the most extensive in France from the point of view of geography. At the same time, only 10 hectares of vineyards this area is given strictly for the production of crémant.
Varieties used are the same as those in the quiet Bordeaux wines.
Of the white: Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, muscadel
Red: Cabernet franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
Crémant means the traditional method of production of sparkling wine (as in champagne), and therefore guarantees at least a beautiful game bubbles and more interesting flavor compared to a Sharma (as for Prosecco).
The use of varieties Semillon brings a bouquet of more flowers and grassy greens, compared to champagne. And the longer the exposure, the more pronounced these differences.
The legislative minimum of contact of the wine with the sediment for Bordeaux crémant is 9 months. And 12 months the wine should hold in the bottle after degorgement before they go on sale.
