Blanc de Blancs (FR. Blanc de Blancs) – white champagne made exclusively from white grapes. From French means “white from white”. (see also Blanc de Noir)
The main variety for the production of Blanc de Blanc is a Chardonnay. This is not surprising, considering that Chardonnay – the most common and popular grape variety in champagne.
Much less well-known white varieties permitted in champagne production, the other four are: Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Petit méliès and arban.
Very few manufacturers use in the production of champagne Blanc de Blanc there’s something besides Chardonnay. But among them is one of the best examples.
Quattuor Drape Michel (Michel Drappier) made of four white varieties. Because named Quattuor (lat. “four”). This Chardonnay, arban, Petit méliès and Pinot Blanc (known in champagne as Blanc Vrai).
Authentis Petit Meslier from Duval Leroy (Duval-Leroy) is remarkable because it contains none of the main champagne varieties, and is not difficult to understand how, exclusively from Petit méliès. Jancis Robinson in their tasting notes this champagne describes as “very floral, with hints of fresh herbs”.
Cepage Arbane from Motor Pere e Fils (Moutard Pere et Fils) – the example of champagne from pure varieties of arban, the most rare of all champagne varieties. He was never particularly common, and is now found on only a few acres in the côte de Bar (home land Motor home) in the South of champagne. From Moutard champagne there is another kind – Cuvee Six Cepages Brut, where it is used in addition to the five varieties.
In the line Roses de Jeanne from the young producer Cedric Bouchard (Cedric Bouchard) a few mono-varietal champagnes, two of which belong to the category of Blanc de Blanc: La Boloree (100% Pinot Blanc) and La Haute-Lemblee (100% Chardonnay). These wines were met with public enthusiasm and created Busaru significant reputation in the category of growers producers ( Engl. Grower Champagne )
Of the most famous samples of champagne Blanc de Blanc based on the Chardonnay, you can select: the Dom Ruinart, Salon Le Mesnil and Krug Clos de Mesnil.
The last two contain 100% Chardonnay from the vineyards of Mesnil-sur-Oger (Mesnil-sur-Oger) – the village sub-region of côte de Blancs.
The aromatics and the taste of champagne Blanc de Blancs significantly different from the majority of sparkling wines that use a large share of the black grapes Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
